Bath Arms Hotel

Bath St, Cheddar BS27 3AA, UK – 01934 742425

A great spot to grab a drink or dinner in the evening. I really enjoyed it and the staff were very friendly and polite. At the end of the evening we also got a free drink as we tried to order after the closed how cool is that. The seating area outside is very nice and relaxing! I highly recommend 👍🏼

Fantastic hotel 10 minutes walk from the gorge. Food is excellent and reasonably priced. There is lots of outdoor seating in the front and back. Staff are extremely nice and helpful, providing fantastic service. It is our second visit and most likely not our last.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

Riverside Inn

The Cliffs, Cheddar BS27 3PX, UK – 01934 742452

Nice relaxed atmosphere, staff friendly and good food. Well positioned if you park at lower end of Cheddar Gorge and want to eat either before walking up, or as we did at the end of the day before travelling back home. Offering both bar area for food as well as more formal table dinning, a good choice of food. The garden looked good, although the weather didn't allow us to use it. Would recommend to other families with children as a place to refuel whilst visiting Cheddar Gorge.

Lovely place at the bottom end of Cheddar gorge. Easy enough to too and far enough from the tourist crowds! Beautiful bar area with loads of outside seating. Staff were all exceptionally polite and helpful, and a decent pint too!

The Kings Head

1 Silver St, Cheddar BS27 3LE, UK – 01934 744088

Great Pub with well kept beers. Loved the traditional atmosphere, can tell this is a local boozer but friendly and welcoming, no nonsense. If I lived in the area, this would be my local. Well worth a visit if you appreciate a real pub and not a gastro wine bar, which a large number of pubs have turned into due to people who can't seem to differentiate between a pub and a gourmet restaurant. Don't expect olives, you won't get em' and why should you.

Love popping in here when we are in Cheddar. After the first welcoming visit we were remembered like locals on subsequent visits.friendly staff and locals and dogs, good beer, lovely garden

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Comfortable and peaceful

Gorge View Cottage

Gorge View, Birch Hill, Cheddar BS27 3JN, UK – 01934 744727

I've stayed here a couple of times now and it never disappoints. The location is excellent, and the cottage itself it very cosy, clean, and well supplied. It's perfect for a small get away.

We booked this excellent cottage online last summer during our trip in the south-west. The cottage was the perfect location to relax in as it directly overlooks the gorge in the village of Cheddar (where the cheese comes from) yet avoiding the touristy centre. The cottage is traditionally built so has the pretty rural look yet has modern and brand new furnishings inside... I appreciated their speedy WiFi and flat screen. There is also a memory foam mattress which meant I slept like a baby while I was there. The owners are a friendly couple who made us feel really comfortable and seemed very knowledgeable of the surrounding area. I want to visit again in the winter to make use of their wood stove. Thanks.

The Gorge View Holiday Apartments

The Bays, Cheddar BS27 3QL, UK – 07980 870575

Perfect location for visiting the key areas across somerset and the surrounding area. The apartment was lovely. The service was exceptional. Kids loved it just as much as the adults. Cant beat waking up to the sound of the stream and the views of the gorge

Very comfortable and well appointed. The owners are very friendly and helpful and can't do enough to make your stay an enjoyable one.

You can find excellent very well priced accommodation around Cheddar using Airbnb!

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! We have had people coming to East Quither Farm expecting to take over our whole house -  or our kitchen etc simply because they have not read the description. Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Cheddar Bridge

Cheddar Bridge Park, Draycott Rd, Cheddar BS27 3RJ, UK – 01934 743048

Booked 2 nights. Ended up booking a 3rd as loved it so much. Extremely friendly staff throughout the stay. Wash rooms are clean and showers hot. Stayed in a large pod and it was brilliant. Could have done with an extra plug socket so bring an extension lead if using more than one device. The fridge in it was really helpful. There is also another fridge freezer in the washing up area. Lovely walks to the village and the gorge. Shops within 2 minutes walk. I had my dog with me and she loved every minute of stay. Will definitely be back

Very clean and quiet site. The camping field has it's own washing up area with a fridge freezer and microwave for campers to use. 25 minutes walk to Cheddar gorge. The only negative I would say is the church bells ring every 15 minutes 24/7.

Cheddar Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

Gas House Lane, Draycott Rd, Cheddar BS27 3RL, UK – 01934 740207

We are at the CL site opposite the Caravan Club site. Site is clean and Warden is helpful and informative about the area. Would recommend and come here again.

Lovely site. Lovely wardens. Can't understand family's bringing children there as no amenities for them. A few there this weekend using the road on campsite like a race track on bikes and other ride on things. Very noisy when you want to just relax.

Petruth Paddocks

Labourham Drove, Cheddar BS27 3XW, UK – 07813 320870

What a fantastic campsite - great atmosphere and spacious! Instead of bringing our own tent, we decided to try a 'shepherds hut' and were not disappointed. It was much larger than I had anticipated - 2 adults + 4 kids - ample room for sleeping. During our stay it was blazing hot (July 2018) and there was an issue with the hut being too hot. However after a brief discussion with Jules regarding the fact that it wouldn't cool down (we weren't complaining - great weather has inevitable issues. NOTE if considering a non summer stay they are well insulated), he appeared an hour later with a fan - A total star. There is also a van that does really good bacon rolls/ cooked breakfasts in the mornings.

Lovely campsite. Staff are very friendly. Showers hot, toilets clean. We stayed in one of the two wooden huts. Highly recommended. You get power sockets, tea making facilities, electric lights, no hassle putting up a tent. Top tip: go through the little gate near the welcome tent and turn right. There is a sign saying 'car boot sale this way', it fails to mention that the brewery is also that way. Well worth a visit if you want local beer!
